I started to run low on wire hangers (which I use for material and filler metal for my welded figurines), so I called some local dry-cleaners to see if they had any for sale. After pricing around for a bit, it turned out that it would be cheaper to just buy a whole box of them from a distributor. After shipping costs, I ended up with 500 basic hangers for $61. That's just a hair over $.12 per hanger.
It turns out that these hangers each have 34.5 inches of usable straight wire (it's a pain to untangle the neck portion, although it *can* be done). At 500 hangers, that's a whopping 17,250 inches. Or 1,437 feet. Or just over a quarter of a mile.
The obvious next step is to order three more boxes and weld up a line of hangers a mile long.
