THE ART OF METAL

I love metal.
I like the sound of metal rods clanging together, the smell of the abrasive cut-off wheel dust when I'm cutting away at it, the shower of sparks from the grinding wheel, and the crackle of electricty in the air when I'm using an arc welder to join pieces of metal together. It makes me feel so... alive.
I'm sure all artists feel that way when working in their medium of choice -- the process of creation, whether on canvas, wood, or steel, ignites an inferno inside them that makes their eyes light up and their fingers tingle as they shape the inanimate into something alive.
I've been building something of function in my garage lately. It's an external engine bay -- a frame that I can use to test an engine before actually installing it into a car. I've got pictures and details on my Datsun 510 page, and I hope to have it complete in the next week or so. Fun. I haven't had this much fun welding since the time I made a goat-drawn cart a few years back. When I'm done with it, I might consider selling it to another fellow gear-head, using the money to build another one... which I'll also probably sell in the future.
