THE REAL GOOD GUYS

Against the general grain of sensationalist news media that portrays bombing after bombing and dead body after dead body, the BBC reported on the refugees from Lebanon that are fleeing into Syria.

In midst of all the bloodshed, there are real human beings -- mothers, sons, daughters, grandparents... people who want nothing more than to simply have a nice meal with their families, to enjoy a sunset with a lover, to just... live. Lebanese, Israeli, Syrian, American... it doesn't matter. And at the Syrian border where potentially 300,000 Lebanese people have crossed, Syrians are opening up their homes, their businesses, and offering whatever help they can. The human part of the battle exists only here, where one human being helps another human being, and all politics and ethnic backgrounds and religious differences are forgotten.

But now, everyone in Syria insists they are helping regardless of whether they are Christians, Shia or Sunni Muslims.

It's strange to think that a country who's people would be so willing to take in Lebanese refugees, regardless of religion (which many argue is the irreconcilable difference), and who's government openly declared safe passage for western foreigners fleeing Lebanon, to be viewed as such an enemy by the Bush Administration, to the point where the Administration is urging Israel to attack Syria in their fight against Lebanon.
