*Note: If distibuter is checked on the vehicle, double the RPM and degrees in tables to get crankshaft figures. |
Several people have replied that they were unable to locate their dizzy on the chart so I guess it it not entirely complete. Most of this info is from a hearst book and seems to only cover USA market vehicles. If you can send me even just the mechanical advance of any unlisted dizzys I will add the info to the chart. The degrees of advance at the distributer (1/2 crank) is usualy stamped on the piece of the advance rotor with the slots for the weights (below the trigger plate). If you have the dizzy ID number (stamped on side of dizzy) and know the original vehicle that a dizzy came from, send them to me and Ill add it to the chart notes to make junkyard shopping for a particlular advance curve easier. '79 seems to be the first year for the black matchbox ignitor dizzy, transistorized ignitor located directly on the dizzy housing.
Also note that not all of the dizzys listed are for 4-cylinder L series. Those with a 6 in the prefix (as in D6K*-**) are for 6 cylinders. The L28 dizzys have advance curve most similar to the early SSS factory curve. Others dizzys are for the 210 A series motors use a different drive tang but dizzy is otherwize identical to the L series dizzy. It is possible to swap the trigger mechanism of a 210 dizzy into the body of a 280ZX dizzy to make a dizzy useable on a 4 cylinder L series or swap the main drive shaft and tang of a L series dizzy into the body of an "A" series dizzy.
