KING OF MY OWN TRASH

Last month, I purchased a flatbed utility trailer for $150, and it's been sitting in my garage, folded up, just dying to be used.

This weekend, I finally got around to bolting down some sheets of plywood for the trailer bed, building removable side-walls, and wiring up my 2000 Dodge minivan to take the trailer harness. The plywood ran me about $6 at Home Depot, and I had the 2x4's sitting around from a previous project. The tow-hitch harness took a little bit of work to get installed, but the wiring itself was just a matter of disconnecting some plugs and connecting other plugs instead. Easy work. The only problem I ran into was the hitch's outer plug terminal. U-Haul's terminals are proprietary, so the trailer's terminal wouldn't fit properly into the hitch plug. Solution: I took a razor blade and cut away at the plug and made it fit.

Proprietary is stupid.

Anyhow, I got the trailer ready and promptly took 400lbs of scrap wood and garbage to the local city dump, and I'll tell you... there's something cool about being in control of your own trash.

Next week, I'm going to take a bunch of scrap metal to the metal recycler, and hopefully clear out enough space to build a small storage shed on the side of my house. I'm not sure what I'll put in it yet, but who cares? Storage sheds are useful.

You the man! And you're right, proprietary IS stupid. Like Apple's Mp4 format that nothing plays but the iPod. Stupid.
