15 MINUTES OF FAME

A week ago, I blogged about banned books week, and about the little image I made and shared with the American Libraries Association (ALA).

I guess a lot of folks visit the ALA site (it was featured on boingboing, after all), since I got 400 hits to my site directly from the ALA. More interestingly, a decent amount of bloggers have picked up the image I made and are posting it on their site, some giving proper attribution and some not. It's a little early to do an official count, since banned books week just started, but I'll post the blogs that link here anyway, in no useful order. By that, I mean, it's what my logs pulled up, in order of how many folks have come to my site through these links, but that doesn't mean anything to most people.

Anyhow, here's the list. We're currently at 19 inbound links related to the image I made:

The ALA
Life's Journey
Librarian.net
dixietoday
Thoughts from a Library Administrator
Don Wood: Library 2.0
Freerange Librarian (flickr)
Message Log between Librarians
Gameblog
h20boro lib blog
Potlikker
A Book A Week
Dandizette
View from the Tower
Summar Reading Project
New Moon News
Tripe (spanish)
Grumpator
jamie's blog for the library

Additions:
Buffalo Wings and Toasted Ravioli

As more folks use the image, I'll post them as well.

Interesting note: Some folks are linking directly to the image on my site, and some are linking to the ALA's hosted copy of the image on my site. If I was feeling clever, I could always change my local copy to something else, causing the change to appear on all the site's that are using the image linked from my site...

the link is a really cool idea to make people aware of a good cause. i like banners and links because they are eye catching in a way that my links sidebar is not. thanks for the work you are doing. i'll put up a post as well- even though it was in the comments :) that way folks will know about the ala.

betmo - It was fine in the comments -- I wasn't counting you in the list of folks that failed to give me attribution. :)

I encouraged people to link to the image on my site just so someone would actually be keeping track of who visited the page. I thought it was a little weird of ALA to use the image and then say "now use it to link to our site" I mean I get that BBW is important and that they are the main sponsor, but their page/site is hard to read and use, it's easier to say "spread the word" and link to a legible blog post. Congrats for the mini-fame, I hope I helped some.

jessamyn - yeah, but I guess the folks at the ALA didn't consider that I might be interested in tracking how many people were using it. And actually, I didn't really think about it when I submitted it to them initially, otherwise I would have asked that they pasted the HTML code that both linked to my site and used the image hosted on my site.
