CLOSED SPACES, SPIDERS, AND DARKNESS

There's an odd odor coming out of one of the heater vents in my house -- a kind of sweet pungent smell... like a cross between rotting strawberries and and an old dish rag.
I've had a few people tell me that what I am smelling is a dead animal that somehow got itself into the duct work in the crawlspace of my house prior to being a dead animal. The smell is strong out of one of my vents... and I can only smell a hint of it out of my other nearby vents, which makes me think that it'll be fairly easy to get into the crawlspace of my house and track down the problem. I should be able to see an area in the ducting that has been shredded open... fun.
The thing is, I'm slightly claustrophobic. I'm also slighty creeped out by spiders. And I'm not a big fan of the two of those things when combined with general darkness, either. But I'm going to go under my house, armed with a flashlight and a knife (in case the dead animal isn't actually dead) and my camera, and I'm going to take pictures of my experience. I'll post pics and a page for the adventure here on my site.
